The Chesterfield Gorge in Winter

The gorge is not that long but very pretty and very rugged, especially now with the winter conditions. There is a trail to the east side of the gorge and you can walk the length of it looking down. The drop from the top of the trail to the water is a good 50 feet, so even with a protective fence, I was being extra careful.

Artist Profile: Nicole Berke

There is a certain feeling I get sometimes when I know a good song is about to be written; it's almost like the song is already there and I just have to bring it to life by putting music and words to it.

Full Screen Buzzword is Magic

What a beautiful sight. There is finally an application that uses full screen mode effectively. With Buzzword, you get more editing space and only Buzzword (and Acrobat.com) functions visible. And that lets you focus on the most important thing – your writing.

A Quick Trip Out West

This is a repost of a blog entry from February 3, 2008 after my first trip to California for Adobe. I'm reposting to give props to a fellow Adobean - best of luck, El Soldador, we will miss you.
Ah, California. There's nothing like it. I had the pleasure of traveling to San Jose recently on business and I return with a few photos and at least one story.

Tony Lovell’s Alternative Medicine

When I posted the New Music Update for November, I left out one of the finalists - Tony Lovell. Tony writes and performs short, often funny songs and his effort on November 24th got him into the final with the two other performers I mentioned.

God Did Not Say That In The Bible

But by putting quotes around the passage, Pastor Michael has created a little fiction here. Although I am not a bible scholar, I think the fools were referred to as fools because they didn't believe in God, not because they didn't believe in creationism.

Mystic Lake Swans

And I had taken two pictures of the ice when I heard a commotion and looked up and saw this guy swimming around. Now, I had a 100mm macro lens on, which is the sharpest lens I own, but it has a limited field of view at this range.

New Music Rundown for November, 2008

Although my schedule is quite difficult, I have managed to see a fair amount of live music lately and this post is a run-down of some of the more interesting acts. Most of these performers are not local to the Boston area, although one is. Read on to find out which one and to hear my brief review of Calexico at the Somerville Theater last week.

You Can BE David Gilmour for $4,800

So here's what the mailer looks like when it arrives in your mailbox, assuming you've ever shopped at this store before. Obviously, I have and so I get all this stuff. I'm also a big fan of Fender, but I really dislike this aspect of their custom guitar series. This is a Fender Stratocaster. Sure, it's got some special electronics, but I defy the average guitarist to discern the difference between this guitar and one costing, say, $1,000.

A Dreary Day in Boston

It's a rainy, dreary day here in eastern Massachusetts and much of New England. Still, there was a break in the weather this afternoon. Enough for me to run up to Wright's Tower with the kids and take in the view of downtown Boston. The skyscrapers are all clipped by the clouds.
